About the Program
The Mayes County Angel Tree serves between 800 and 1,000 children throughout Mayes County each year. As soon as we finish for one year we immediately start shopping for the next year and shop all year long. We have learned that this is the best way to provide for this many children and still be able to take advantage of 75%-90% off sales.
In addition to the OD Mayor Foundation funds, businesses and industries, clubs, and organizations throughout Mayes County contribute some in cash, as well as adopt angels to fill the needs for that child. We work all year long with DHS and the School Counselors. They help us distribute and gather the applications and help provide personal information for each child to help with sizing and personal needs.
We are very fortunate that this program has grown so large. Pryor Public Schools has provided us with an empty classroom to store clothing items in. We are also thankful for the MidAmerica Industrial Park for donating the use of the entire Expo Center for us to use for organizing and distribution of the gifts. As the program continues to grow, we have started to work with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission as well as Workforce Oklahoma to put together a job fair to provide counseling and resources for the parents as the put their children on the program.
