Workforce Development

Local Workforce Development Council - composed of twenty-four area business and industry leaders and twelve public service agencies, has the mission of creating a local workforce development system maximizing local resources and reducing duplicate services. The council benefits from Department of Labor funding providing local area services for adults, dislocated workers and youth.

A primary goal of the group is to ensure that the Workforce Investment Act fund expenditures are inclusive - benefiting the broadest range of employers and employees.

Additionally, The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission provides customized assistance to screen and refer qualified job applicants at no cost to business. Local and statewide labor searches are also available.

Job Training Partnership Act is a federal program, which provides 50% of on-the-job training costs and 100% of the classroom training for qualified low-income individuals.

Workforce Training - The Oklahoma Department of Vocational and Technical Training is recognized as one of the top technical training systems in the nation. Northeast Technology Centers maintain two large campuses in Pryor, where they develop and provide customized training for area industries and businesses.

A satellite campus of Rogers State University provides core curriculum to area residents.

Advanced Technical Training is offered through OSU-Okmulgee, a branch of Oklahoma State University. OSU-Okmulgee occupies a 12,500 square foot training center at MidAmerica Industrial Park where they provide highly specialized workforce development for the area's industries and businesses.
