Average temperature in January is 41° with a July average of 78°. The area receives an annual average of 40" of rain and 7" of snow. Average number of flying days is 300.

 

Parks

24-acre Whitaker Park has tennis courts, swimming pool, measured walking trail, sand volleyball and basketball courts, fishing pond, numerous playground areas, and picnic pavilions.

 

Centennial Park, with picnic facilities and a walking trail was completed in 2007, in celebration Oklahoma’s 100th birthday. Additional city parks have walking trails, playground areas and ball fields.

 

Pryor’s Baseball & Softball Complex enjoys 12 fields and is considered to be one of the best in Northeast Oklahoma. The Soccer Complex is equipped with 14 fields.

 

Industry

Pryor is home to MidAmerica Industrial Park: Oklahoma’s largest industrial park and the country’s largest rural industrial park.

 

Need to hold a seminar for 30, a sit-down dinner for 450, or a consumer trade show for thousands? Then meet the Expo and Conference Center a 20,000 square-foot activity center designed specifically to accommodate a wide variety of events from industry training sessions, tradeshows and company parties to product demonstrations, associations, and arts and craft shows.

 

Mayes County is one of the state’s foremost manufacturing centers.

Tourism

Mayes County sits in the “Heart of Green Country” surrounded by lakes and tourist attractions. Pryor is less than 50 miles from more than 2,500 miles of lakeshore.

 

Pryor is located just 10 minutes from Lake Hudson, one of the best fishing lakes in Oklahoma. Other nearby lakes also offer exceptional fishing opportunities along with additional watersports such as skiing and sailing.

 

Aside from water sports and nature, two of the most notable attractions are:            Dry Gulch U.S.A. – located off of U.S. 69, just 4 miles north of Pryor and East to the shores of Lake Hudson; and, Pryor Creek Music Festivals featuring Country Fever and Rocklahoma –  9 located just 3 miles north of Pryor on U.S. 69.

 

Trade Area

The retail area has a radius of 25 miles with a population of 135,150. More than one million reside within a 40-mile radius of Pryor.

Transportation Accessibility

Pryor is located at the intersection of US 69, SH 20. It sits in the center of the nation, near I-35, I-40 and I-44.

 

MidAmerica Airport, 4 miles from town, is owned and maintained by MidAmerica Industrial Park. Jet fuel is available and the foot-lighted runway extends 5,500 feet to accommodate corporate jets. Both enclosed and open hangers are available.

 

Tulsa International Airport is 40 miles away.

 

Public Library

Harrison Public Library contains more than 40,000 volumes. A microfilm library that includes all Mayes County news-papers dating back to 1904. The library is a public access point to the Internet and houses numerous computers for the public’s use.

 

Arts and Entertainment

The state-of-the-art auditorium at Pryor High School seats 1,100, Whitaker’s W.E.T.C. auditorium seats 250, the Northeast Area Technology Centers auditorium and seminar facility seats 260. The Burdick Center Gymnasium, which seats more than 2000, was completed in 2005.

 

The Pryor Golf Course is considered by many to be one of the state's finest municipal courses.  Pryor also enjoys a public outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, racquetball, basketball and volleyball courts, a roller skating rink, a multi-screen movie theater, bowling, fitness centers and multiple basketball, softball and soccer fields.  The $7 million 55,000 sq. ft. Pryor Creek Community Recreation Center opened in March 2006.

 

Clubs & Organizations

More than 85 organizations and civic clubs are enthusiastically attended by residents from around Mayes County. Ranging from the Pryor Area Arts & Humanities Council to the Green Country Antique Tractor Club, the Pryor area has something to offer everyone.
